Although the impact of businesses on biodiversity is difficult to measure even today, more and more companies wish to act for the preservation of nature. On July 10, at the GoodPlanet foundation in Paris, 65 companies have decided to change the scale of their actions for the environment. Together, they joined the initiative “Act4nature” to protect, enhance and restore biodiversity. These companies signed a joint commitment and presented their individual commitments to embed the protection of biodiversity at the heart of their business.
For a long time, biodiversity was placed in the background of political and societal debates on climate. Today, it has become a major source of commitment from public authorities, citizens, and businesses.
“More and more companies are becoming conscious of the role they can play to ensure the protection of biodiversity. “ Act4nature ” shows the dynamism of the actors of the economic world who can bring solutions to restore biodiversity “ says Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux, President of the French Business Federation (MEDEF), partner of the initiative.
The 65 companies involved have:
– signed a joint commitment of ten points which aim to embed biodiversity in every aspect of their business, from the governance to the global strategy of the company. The goal is for each company to have a net positive contribution to nature by promoting the progressive integration of biodiversity into decisions throughout value chains, from the production of natural raw materials to the end of life of the products after being used by consumers.
– taken several individual commitments to initiate further actions to ensure a collective dynamic for the preservation of biodiversity through a constructive dialogue with all stakeholders.
The 65 signatory companies belong to many sectors, such as agri-food, chemistry, environment, energy, construction, luxury, cosmetics, real estate, tourism, legal, banking and insurance sectors and include:
